In my daily blog check ins I found and article about this man and his followers.
It seems this man, Jose Luis de Jesus Miranda, lives in Florida and has started a church, Growing in Grace, where he teaches that the devil and sin do not exist.
I found this part particularly interesting:
It would seem that the Catholic Church has left itself wide open for such a man to come about. From my reading, you don't have to avoid women in order to be a follower of Christ nor a leader in the church. I wonder if this many simply became bitter over the man-made traditions and weak stances in the Catholic church.
It is the Puerto Rican-born former evangelical priest's latest attempts to
expand his following in Central America. Most of his supporters are in Miami
and Colombia, but Miranda holds a congress every year in different locations
in the Americas. He has a 24-hour Spanish-language television network and a
radio program broadcast on 287 stations.
He often takes aim at the Catholic Church — the most powerful faith in
Latin America — calling all priests child molesters and saying chastity vows go
against the Bible's teachings. Members of his church have torn up images of saints and other religious symbols...
Then this question came to mind: "Has the Christian church become a place to birth such a person?"
Then the article states, "...followers get "SSS" tattoos, referring to Miranda's motto of "Salvo, siempre salvo," or "Saved, always saved." He believes sinning is impossible because Christ died for the sins of mankind. "
Now, if you believe that once you're saved, you're always saved, then what do you do with the idea that sinning is no more?
This reminds me, once again, of something my pastor speaks on. There is a difference between rebellion and immaturity...but that doesn't get rid of sin! As a Christian we are viewed through what Christ did, not what we do...but that doesn't give us the liberty to do whatever we want! If it did, then what is this man's offense with the Catholic child molesters? Why hate Catholicism when child molesting is not a sin as sin doesn't exist? He makes no sense!
Paul, in Romans 6, wrote, "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? ...we also should walk in newness of life...that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin." Paul states that we shouldn't live chained by sin, but doesn't state that we do not nor cannot sin. Sin exists, which is why we struggle with it. Of course, with Christ, we can overcome, but it usually (at least for me) takes time. He helps us choose when we are free by helping us consciously conquer.
To quote Milehimama, "If only the real Antichrist is that easy to spot!"
The International House of Prayer (IHOP) released a CD of Corey Russell (I'm guessing this is the CD) where he talks about the Urgency of the Hour. He makes a comment on Hitler and how he didn't perform one sign or wonder, yet we're to expect an Antichrist who can call down fire from heaven.
Are you ready? Do you know the signs?
